To meet the financial needs of local businesses and individuals, Cartlidge, Cartlidge & Company was first established over 50 years ago, and has since grown its team and clientele. In December of 2020, long-time CPA firm neighbors decided to merge together to establish Cartlidge Belnap Helmers LLC. Our Principals are Al Cartlidge III, Merlin Belnap and Edna Helmers.

Meet Our Team
Albert “Al” E. Cartlidge III
Partner/CPA
Al began practicing in the accounting field in 1988. In 1994, he invested and merged with an existing firm that launched owning his own accounting practice. In 1997, his semi-retired Father, Albert E. Cartlidge Jr., asked him to merge his CPA Firm with his. He further expanded to Cartlidge Belnap Helmers LLC in 2021. Al began his securities testing in 1999 and was Series 7, 66 licensed in February 2000. He is the principal of Cartlidge, Cartlidge & Co., LLC, his securities firm. He is NASD licensed in Nevada, California, Oregon, Iowa and Wyoming. Al and his wife Sandy share seven kids and five grandkids.
Merlin S. Belnap
Partner/CPA
Merlin graduated from Brigham Young University in 1988 and began his career with a “Big Eight” CPA firm in San Francisco. He has also worked in the private industry for public, privately-held and family-owned business as a CFO and Controller. He is married to Jami and they have six children. He enjoys traveling, family time, major league baseball games and spoiling his grandkids.
Edna K. Helmers
Partner/CPA
Edna graduated from the University of Nevada Reno in 1986 and has been a CPA since 1998. Over the years, she has assisted many clients with individual and business tax returns as well as financial statements. She has also served as the treasurer of Gothic North Theater. A native to California, she is proud to call Sparks her home. She enjoys reading, theater and traveling with her husband.
Spencer E. Belnap
Partner/CPA
Spencer has lived in Reno since 2018. He previously lived in Arizona and Idaho, where he attended college, and is originally from the Midwest. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his wife and daughters.
Alexander E. Byrd
Partner/CPA
Alex has an extensive background in both tax and attestation services. He has also worked as a Financial Controller in the non-profit industry. Alex’s goal is to create value for his clients whether that comes in the form of consulting, tax preparation, tax planning or financial statements. Outside of work, Alex enjoys exploring the Reno/Tahoe area with his wife and two dogs.
Cindy D. Peachy, CPA
Cindy received her Bachelor’s degree and Masters of Accountancy at Brigham Young University. She went on to work several years for a large accounting firm in the Bay Area earning her CPA and working primarily in assurance services. She joined Cartlidge, Belnap, Helmers three years ago after a long break from public accounting to raise her four children. She loves to hike and run with her dog and boating with her family.
